Wine Storage
When it comes to wine storage, it is important to optimize
the amount of space available and to create an environment that will
not cause premature aging to the wine selection. In order to optimize
space, wine racks and shelving can be incredibly helpful. They not only
keep wine stored properly (on its side and without chance of rolling
or disturbance) but they also help organize the selection, which keeps
the bottles from being removed and turned repeatedly when one needs
to find a certain bottle. Using bottles tags, shelving labels or a database,
helps the wine enthusiast think ahead when storing and buying wine.
A wine storage should maintain the proper environment, which includes:
• Temp. of 50-65 degrees (for red wines) and 45-60 degrees (for
whites)
• 70% humidity
• Incandescent lighting (avoid fluorescents and direct sunlight)
• Stable area free from traffic, loud sound vibrations and movement
A wine storage can also be converted into a wine testing area by simply
adding a table and chairs in the center of the room. Other accessories
such as wall accents or wall wine racks and lamps can add an ambiance
fit for any wine enthusiast.
